Super Coach's Home For Sale

Super Coach’s Home For Sale – Friday 08 Apr 2016

The former home of legendary rugby league coach Jack Gibson OAM is one the market.

Gibson purchased the then vacant block of land in Cronulla in 1970 with his wife, Judy, and built the six-bedroom, three-bathroom home that stands today.

It is here he raised his family while also making a name for himself as one of Australian rugby league’s greatest coaches.

Gibson began his coaching career at Eastern Suburbs (Sydney Roosters) in 1967 and coached them to premierships in 1974 and 1975. Throughout his career he also coached Newtown, St George, the Rabbitohs, Parramatta Eels – where he won the premiership in 1981, 1983 and 1983 – and Cronulla.

Gibson also coached the NSW State of Origin team in 1989 and 1990, retiring from coaching in 1990.

In 1988 he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia “for service to rugby league as a coach”, and was named as Coach of rugby league’s Team of the Century.

Gibson passed away in 2008. Judy Gibson passed away early this year.

Their children are now selling the family home that has played host to countless rugby league greats.

The home at 2 Cowra Place, Cronulla, overlooks the ocean and has direct access to Cronulla’s Salmon Haul Beach.

It is being marketed by David Highland, of Highland Property Agents in Cronulla, and is expected to sell around the $4m mark.

Assisting agent Mitchell Wynn says:  “It’s probably one of the best spots in south Cronulla … one of two houses on the street with those views.”

“It’s a great family home, and it backs on to probably one of the safest coves in the area.”

The property features water views from almost every room, a saltwater swimming pool, Caesarstone gas kitchen with stainless steel appliances, a billiards room and double garage with internal access.

The property is being auctioned on May 18.
